The Knights of Rizal – Hawaii Chapter, in collaboration with the Philippine Consulate General in Honolulu, held the Rizal Day celebration last 29 December 2010 at the Consulate.
Continuing the tradition of commemorating the martyrdom of Dr. Rizal, the highlight of the celebration was a re-enactment of his final day at Fort Santiago where he penned the poem Mi Ultimo Adios and where he had his last meeting with his mother and sisters.
Prominent Filipino leader and Rizalist Atty. Dennis S.A. Ing delivered the keynote speech. He extolled Dr. Rizal’s accomplishments as a man of great intellect whose pacifist ideas of freedom inspired a country and its people.
Consul General Leonia R. Cardenas Jr. commended the Knights of Rizal for its dedication and commitment “to continue and study the teachings of Dr. Rizal” in Hawaii.
Established in 1971, the Knights of Rizal formed part of the Order of the Knights of Rizal Hawaii/Guam/Alaska area.
Led by Leeward Community College professor Sir Dr. Raymund P. Liongson, the Knights of Rizal also recently conducted the Youth Leadership Institute for young Filipinos aged 15-25 years old, a training camp on democratic leadership, character building, global citizenship and service to the community.
